Introduction

In this chapter you will find about the different communication services integrated in Zentyal, which enable centralised management of an organisation’s communications, and allow users to work with all of them using the same password.

Firstly, you will find a description of the mail service, that offers quick and easy integration with the usual email clients of the users and provides also services that help to prevent spam and viruses.

Since email became popular, it has suffered from unwanted mail, sent in bulk. This type of mail is often used to deceive the recipient in order to obtain money fraudulently, or simply unwanted advertising. You will find out how to filter incoming and outgoing e-mail within your network and to avoid both the reception of unwanted emails and block outgoing mail from any potentially compromised computer of your network.

Besides the standard mail protocols, Zentyal integrates SOGo, Open Source groupware solution, that provides Web access to mail, contacts and calendars together with ActiveSync® protocol implementation for mobile clients.

Finally, the corporate instant messaging service, based on the Jabber/XMPP standard, is also described. This module provides an internal IM service and avoids you depending on external providers or the Internet connection and guarantees that conversations will be kept confidential, preventing data being passed through third parties. This service provides conference rooms and allows, through the use of the many available clients, a synchronous written communication, better adapted for certain cases in which email is not enough.
